Frequently Asked Questions about VIBE
What grade leves are taught in the VIBE program?
VIBE is a virtual learning program for students in grades K-12.
Will students be allowed to participate in sports, band, orchestra, drama and choir?
Yes, students enrolled in the VIBE program will be able to participate in sports, band, orchestra, drama and choir at their home schools.
Will students have virtual classes all day?
No. One of VIBE’s core pillars is blended learning. Students will have lessons and assignments every day, designed for students to spend 4-6 hours per day on schoolwork. There will be a Morning Meeting each day for most students – please check the VIBE homepage for times and links. Elementary students will have class meetings via Google Meet almost daily, and middle and high school students will generally have a class meetings for each subject 1-2x per week. Teachers may also have 1-to-1 Google Meets during “Office Hours” for students who request or need them.
Will students have opportunities for in-person activities?
Yes! We will have a variety of in-person activities to supplement and enrich lessons, and some activities just for fun. We also go on field trips sometimes and have speakers visit VIBE once in a while.
My child has an IEP. Can they enroll in VIBE?
We want to ensure that every student receives the best education for that student. For many students with IEPs, VIBE is a wonderful option and can easily meet (or exceed!) the services and accommodations of an IEP through general education instruction with VIBE and IEP services through the student’s resident school. For other students, VIBE may not meet their individualized needs. If your child has an IEP, please contact us directly so we can gather information specific to your child. Students with IEPs enrolled in VIBE will generally have an IEP review meeting in the fall to determine what services will be needed while enrolled in the program.
Will my child have a school-issued Chromebook or laptop?
VIBE students will be issued a Chromebook by the Burlington Community School District. If you need to pick up a Chromebook, or if your Chromebook is broken, please call 319-758-0060.
If a Chromebook is broken or damaged by the student, there are fees to replace or fix district Chromebooks.

VIBE is an instructional program within the Iowa public school system, so there is no tuition charged to parents of students within participating school districts. Students will still register and pay normal school fees to their resident district.
My child is doing VIBE because of health concerns. If things resolve, when can my child return to in-person?
VIBE is a full-year program, and students register for the entire school year. Families may apply for a transfer between virtual and in-person learning at the trimester/semester changes.
I am interested, but I still have questions.
